About Us

Malaysia's data storytelling studio

We hold a simple but firm belief:
tell the truth through data, understand what matters through visuals, and make informed decisions.

What do we do?

For the Public

Independent Data Storytelling

We publish independent data storytelling — presented visually, written accessibly, and sourced rigorously — so that every Malaysian can understand the issues that affect their lives. Our editorial work is free from commercial influence and governed by public editorial standards.

For Organisations

Data Storytelling Services

We help institutions and corporations communicate their data with the same clarity and credibility we apply to our editorial work. Services include data storytelling, infographic design, report visualisation, interactive microsites, and data literacy workshops.

Why we exist

To make data matter
for everyone.

Truth Literacy Unity Facts defeat sensationalism. Understand data from new perspectives. Connect every Malaysian.

How we work

Every piece of content — editorial or commissioned — is built on the same foundation.

01

Sources Verified

We collect data from credible, citable institutions and attribute sources on every piece of content. No data goes uncited. No claim goes unsourced.

02

Methodology Transparent

When we interpret or visualise data, we show our logic. We explain how figures were derived, what they measure, and where their limitations lie.

03

Editorial Independence

Our commissioned work and editorial work are structurally separated. Client commissions do not influence how we independently report on data. Our public editorial standards are available for anyone to read.

Founder

Founded by a journalist.
Built on editorial discipline.

Newsgraphy was founded by Dexter Chan (陈成辉), an award-winning journalist who graduated from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York (CUNY), United States.

Dexter founded Newsgraphy out of a firm belief: Malaysia needs not just more information, but better-structured, more trustworthy information — and data visualisation storytelling is the most powerful way to deliver it.

His professional background is in journalism — in the rigorous disciplines of verification, source accountability, and editorial independence. This foundation is what makes our content trusted by media organisations, government agencies, and institutional partners.

Our Logo

Simple in form. Deliberate in meaning.

Newsgraphy’s logo may seem simple,
but it carries meaning behind it.

The logo is based on a pie chart,
divided in a 30:70 ratio,
representing Earth’s surface components.

Blue symbolises knowledge and wisdom,
alongside calmness and tolerance,
giving a sense of security and trust.

Orange symbolises warmth and vitality,
with meanings that illuminate the soul
and inspire hope.

Overall, the logo reflects our mission:
to reveal what’s worth telling and
illustrate what matters most
in a single picture.

Today

Growing into a credible and sustainable platform for Malaysia.

Since founding, Newsgraphy has grown into a bilingual platform publishing data content in both Chinese and English — serving a readership that wants to understand this country through real data.

On the commercial side, we partner with media organisations and institutions to deliver data storytelling, infographic design, interactive microsites, report visualisation, and training workshops.

We are working toward a longer-term goal: building a Newsgraphy that is credible and sustainable platform — a data source cited by institutions, referenced by educators, and trusted by citizens.
