There are 7,308 extremely poor families in the country

In recent years, the government has implemented a series of poverty alleviation policies to address poverty and improve the quality of life of vulnerable groups.

As early as 2007, the authorities set up the e-Kasih database to track and register poor households to ensure that government resources can be accurately allocated to those who need it most.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories Affairs) Zarif Haji Hassan revealed in a written reply in Parliament that as of October 31 this year, there were 7,308 extremely poor families nationwide, involving 32,452 people. The majority were in Penang, with 1,650 households and 4,994 family members.

However, "Pictures of the World" compared the data released by the Prime Minister's Office last year and found that the number of extremely poor families in Penang this year has decreased by nearly half compared to the same period last year.

Sarawak, which ranked first in 2023, has 1,393 extremely poor households this year, a decrease of 94% from last year.

The states and regions that have no extremely poor families this year are Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya.

The government has set the national poverty line income level at RM2,589. Any household with a monthly income below this level is classified as a poor household, while the monthly income of an extremely poor household is less than RM1,198, which is the food consumption required to maintain basic survival.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim once said that he wanted to eliminate extreme poverty in the country by 2023. Although there are still extreme poverty families, compared with the same period last year (102,888 households), the number of extreme poverty families in our country has been greatly reduced by 93%, and in Malacca and Negeri Sembilan, there is a record of zero extreme poverty families.

This statistical data reflects the achievements made by the government in implementing social welfare policies and targeted poverty alleviation measures, but it also exposes that the poverty problem is still severe in some areas and requires further policy intervention.

Under the government's policy of promoting industrialization and economic diversification, my country's automobile industry has made significant progress in recent years.

Our domestic car manufacturers, Proton and Perodua, have expanded their international market share through exports, helping our country achieve a more diversified export economy and further enhancing the global influence of our products.

In a written reply in Parliament, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry stated that from 2019 to September 2024, PROTON and PERODUA exported a total of 24,272 vehicles, of which 17,118 (71%) were PROTON models and the remaining 7,154 were Perodua models.

This achievement is closely related to the government's policy in recent years to encourage local brands to strengthen innovation and enhance international competitiveness.

The authorities pointed out that the government has enhanced the capabilities of the local automotive industry, including the export of auto parts, by providing tax incentives, trade financing facilities, and strengthening ties with international markets.

my country's public health expenditure has increased year by year, especially in drug procurement, where government spending has increased significantly.

This trend reflects the government's efforts to improve universal health coverage by ensuring access to medicines in response to growing public health needs.

Health Minister Dzulkefly revealed during an oral question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat that the government spent a total of RM23.25 billion on purchasing medicines from 2015 to 2023.

In terms of years, the government's drug procurement in 2023 will reach RM3 billion, compared with RM2.3 billion in 2015, which means an increase of 30% in eight years.

He explained that the reasons for the increase in the drug purchasing budget include rising drug prices, an increase in the number of patients, and the introduction of new drugs, especially high-priced drugs that are still under patent.

“The Ministry of Health expects the expenditure required to meet the demand for medicines in medical facilities will continue to increase in the future.”
