There are 7,308 extremely poor families in the country

In recent years, the government has implemented a series of poverty alleviation policies and is committed to dealing with poverty problems, thereby improving the quality of life of vulnerable groups.

As early as 2007, the authorities established the Electronic Care Program (e-Kasih) database, aiming to track and register poor families and ensure government resources can be accurately allocated to the groups most needed.

Minister of the Prime Minister's Office (Federal Territory Affairs) Zaliha revealed through a written reply from the Congress that as of October 31 this year, there were 7,308 extremely poor families nationwide, involving 32,452 people, including Penang, with 1,650 households, covering 4,994 family members.

However, Newsgraphy compared data released by the Prime Minister's Office last year and found that the number of households in Penang this year has decreased by nearly half compared to the same period last year.

In Sarawak, which ranked first in 2023, there are 1,393 extremely poor families this year, a decrease of 94% from last year.

The states and regions that do not have extremely poor families this year are Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya.

The government sets the national poverty line income level at RM2,589. Any family with a monthly income below this level is classified as a poor family; the monthly income of a highly poor family is less than RM1,198, which means the food consumption required to maintain basic survival.

Prime Minister Anwar once said that the domestic extreme poverty problem should be eliminated by 2023. Although there are still extremely poor families, compared with the same period last year (102,888 households), the number of extremely poor families in my country has dropped by 93%. In Malacca and Negeri Sembilan, records of zero-poverty families have been recorded.

This statistical data reflects the achievements made by the government after implementing social welfare policies and targeted poverty alleviation measures, but it also reveals that the poverty problem is still serious in some areas and requires further policy intervention.

Under the government's policy of promoting industrialization and economic diversification, my country's automobile industry has made significant progress in recent years.

my country's domestic car manufacturers - Proton and PERODUA, have expanded their international market share through exports, helping my country achieve a more diversified export economy and further enhancing the global influence of my country's products.

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry stated in a written reply to Congress that from 2019 to September 2024, Proton and PERODUA exported a total of 24,272 vehicles, of which 17,118 (71%) were Proton models, and the remaining 7,154 were models of the second domestic car.

This achievement is closely related to the government's policies to encourage local brands to strengthen innovation and enhance international competitiveness in recent years.

The authorities pointed out that the government has improved the capacity of the local automobile industry, including the export of auto parts by providing tax cuts, trade financing facilities, and strengthening its international markets.

my country's public health expenditure has increased year by year, especially in drug procurement, and government expenditure has increased significantly.

This trend reflects the government's efforts to improve universal health care by ensuring access to drugs in order to face growing public health needs.

Health Minister Zukifiri revealed in the oral Q&A session of the House of Commons that the government spent a total of RM23.250 million on purchasing drugs from 2015 to 2023.

By year, compared with RM2.3 billion in 2015, the government's drug procurement reached RM3 billion in 2023, which is a 30% increase in eight years.

He explained that the reasons for the increase in drug purchase budget include rising drug prices, increasing number of patients, and the use of new drugs, especially high-priced drugs that are still in the patented period.

“The Ministry of Health expects the expenses required to continue to increase in the future as the medical facilities have to be met.”
