If you have ever seen a doctor in a government clinic, you may have faced a situation where you have taken the number plate and waited for hours before you could see the doctor for treatment.

When patients need to wait a lot, in addition to the increase in the number of patients seeking treatment, the number of clinics is also another key factor.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Health, there are currently 2,900 government clinics in the country (Klinik Kesihatan). If calculated based on the 34.06 million population in my country, each clinic serves an average of 11,744 people.

Pahang is one of the states that can better meet basic medical needs. There are 329 government clinics in the area, and each clinic needs to serve about 5,000 residents.

According to the population of each state, Selangor has the largest number of private clinics, with a total of 3,103; however, based on Selangor's population of 7.36 million, each local clinic serves an average of 2,373 people.

There are 1,463 clinics in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, but due to the relatively small population (2.19 million people), each clinic in the local area serves an average of 1,495 people, the smallest in the country.

my country has a serious problem of birth reduction. Each woman has an average of 1.6 children.

The world is facing a trend of less birth. In addition to Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and other countries, our country is also facing a decline in fertility rates.

In a written reply, the Ministry of Women, Family and Social Development quoted data from the Bureau of Statistics and pointed out that my country's total fertility rate has shown a downward trend. Every woman aged 15 to 49 has an average of 2.1 children in 2010; by 2022, this number has dropped to 1.6 children, which is lower than the replacement level.

The response reads that the reasons for the decline in total fertility include economic factors, family planning, lifestyle, and infertility issues. Nevertheless, authorities believe that whether a couple should have children and how many children they decide to have is entirely a couple's right.

To assist couples facing infertility, the Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) has launched various efforts, such as providing affordable fertility treatment services, men's health screening, and tax relief for fertility treatments.

In addition, the government plans to set up a National Infertility Centre (Pusat Subfertiliti Negara) in Shah Alam, Selangor, to provide comprehensive, modern and affordable fertility treatment services to people in need.
