As the number of ministers increased from the original 28 to 31, the Democratic Action Party and the United Malays National Organization each received an additional ministerial post; the other ministerial post was held by the former chief executive officer of the Employees Provident Fund Board, Amir (Senator), as the second minister of finance.
The number of deputy ministers increased from 27 to 29. Among them, the PKR got one more deputy minister, and the other was given to Zulkifli Hasan (Senator), a senior lecturer at the Islamic Science University of Malaysia, as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs).
As for the female ministers and deputy ministers in the unity government, their numbers remain at five and eight respectively after the reorganization.
Statistics show that the average age of ministers is 55.7 years old; that of deputy ministers is 51.1 years old.
Let's take a look at the ministers and vice ministers. Who is the youngest? Who is the oldest?
After the reorganization, the total number of ministers and deputy ministers in the unity government increased from 55 to 60.
Looking at the cabinet lineups over the past decade, Mahathir in the PH era advocated a "slimming down" of the cabinet, which was reduced from 68 to 50 in 2016, making it the smallest governing team. Two years later, Muhyiddin expanded the lineup to 70, and the successor Ismail Sabri's government maintained the same number of people, making it the largest in the past decade.
From the above chart, we can roughly observe how the successive prime ministers deployed their forces. Among them, the governments of Najib, Mahathir and Anwar had more ministers, while the teams of Muhyiddin and Ismail Sabri were mostly composed of deputy ministers.
After the change of government in 2018, the number of female ministers in Malaysia has increased. Since the Muhyiddin era, the cabinet has maintained five female ministers. At the same time, the number of female deputy ministers in the Anwar government has doubled from four to eight, the highest in ten years.
