Unfortunately, in our country, if you don’t have a car, you can hardly move around. However, as more and more people have cars, traffic jams have become a nightmare for drivers every day.
Data from the Ministry of Transport show that as of October 2023, the number of registered cars in the country is 17,244,978, which is more than half of the country's total population of 34 million, which means: there is about one car for every two people.
According to data analyzed by FOURIN, a Japanese automotive industry research company, Malaysia is the second highest car ownership country in Southeast Asia after Brunei. In 2022, Malaysia has 533 cars per 1,000 people, while Brunei has 605 cars.
The reason why our country’s car ownership rate is so high is not only due to low fuel prices, but also due to the imperfect public transportation network, which makes most people rely on driving to meet their commuting needs.
